Located in the suburbs of Australia's capital, Canberra, the Australian National University (ANU) is an internationally-recognised higher education institution and a notable producer of distinguished alumni and faculty alike.
As the only state-governed university in Australia and a big player among the country's research universities, ANU is known for the quality and good prospects of its graduates.
Its foundation was established by the Australian Parliament in 1946. The institution was first intended as a postgraduate college, but later developed a successful undergraduate division, and successfully merged with Canberra University College in the 1960s.

Today, ANU is a well-known academic authority organised into seven colleges.

In ANU’s major campus, which is located in Canberra's southern district of Acton, students can find modern lecture theatres, libraries with over 2.5 million publications on offer as well as fully equipped laboratories and research centres. Some of the buildings within Acton campus have been included in a local heritage list, preserving sites related to the establishment of the Australian capital. ANU’s also receives a considerable endowment in order to fund the operation of these facilities.

The university is an active member of the Group of 8, a coalition of research-intensive Australian universities and the International Alliance of Research Universities. To foster cross-border collaborations and exchange of students, ANU works directly with Yale University, the University of Cambridge and ETH Zurich.
Apart from boasting several Nobel Laureates, ANU is also the alma mater of important political figures in Australia such as former Prime Ministers Kevin Rudd and Bob Hawke.
